Frequently Asked Questions

1. What teaching experience and qualifications do your tutors have?

Louisa Tutors works with tutors who have teaching or tutoring experience and a genuine passion for education. Tutors are expected to have, or be able to obtain, an Enhanced DBS check. Experience and background may vary by tutor, and we’re happy to provide more information about the tutor supporting your child.

2. How do you assess my child's learning needs and progress?

We begin by getting to know your child’s current knowledge, strengths and areas where they may need additional support. This can include reviewing recent schoolwork, discussing their goals and considering any concerns you have shared with us.

As sessions progress, we continually review your child’s understanding through their work, practice activities and appropriate assessments. This allows us to adapt their learning and keep you informed about their progress.

3. What is your teaching approach or methodology?

Our approach is tailored to the individual needs of each child. We aim to make learning engaging, supportive and easy to understand, using a combination of structured resources, practical activities, discussion and real-life examples.

We focus on building strong foundations, developing problem-solving skills and helping children grow in confidence as well as knowledge.

4. Can you provide references or testimonials from other parents or students you've worked with?

Yes. You can visit our Testimonials page to read genuine feedback from parents who have used Louisa Tutors.

5. What is the frequency and duration of tutoring sessions?

Our tutoring sessions are typically 60 minutes and take place weekly.

6. How do you handle challenging subjects or topics my child may struggle with?

We identify the specific areas your child is finding difficult and break them down into smaller, manageable steps.

Tutors may use explanations, visual aids, practical examples, structured resources and practice activities to help build understanding. Children are encouraged to ask questions and work at a pace that allows them to develop both their skills and their confidence.

7. What is your policy on missed or rescheduled sessions?

Sessions can be rescheduled when at least 24 hours’ notice is provided. If a session is missed without the required notice, the lesson fee will still be charged.

8. How do you communicate with parents about their child's progress?

We believe that clear communication with parents is an important part of supporting a child’s learning.

We provide feedback on progress, strengths and areas that may need further development. Parents are also welcome to contact us with questions or concerns so that we can work together to support their child.

9. How do you tailor lessons to my child’s individual needs?

Yes. Every child is different, so we adapt sessions according to their current ability, needs, goals and the areas where they require additional support.

We also take into account how your child engages best with activities and explanations, while maintaining a structured approach to their learning.

10. What resources or materials do you use during tutoring sessions?

We use a range of age-appropriate resources and materials to support learning. These can include structured lesson resources, worksheets, educational materials, practical activities and additional exercises tailored to the child’s needs.

Resources are used alongside tutor-led teaching rather than as a replacement for personalised support.

11. How do you address homework or assignments from school?

Yes. If your child brings schoolwork or homework that they are finding difficult, their tutor can help them understand the topic and work through the areas causing difficulty.

Our focus is on helping children understand how to approach their work rather than simply giving them the answers, so they can become more confident and independent learners.

12. What is your fee structure, and are there any additional costs?

Tutoring sessions are currently £25 per lesson. We believe in clear and transparent pricing and will let you know in advance if any additional costs apply.

If you have any questions about fees before booking, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help.

13. Can you help with test preparation or exam strategies?

Yes. We can support children with appropriate test preparation, including reviewing key topics, practising relevant questions and developing strategies for approaching assessments.

Our aim is to help children feel prepared and confident without placing unnecessary pressure on them.

14. What measures do you take to ensure a safe and comfortable learning environment?

We want children to feel safe, supported and comfortable during their sessions. We create a positive environment where children are encouraged to ask questions, make mistakes and learn without feeling embarrassed or pressured.

Tutors are expected to have, or be able to obtain, an Enhanced DBS check, and we take the wellbeing of the children we support seriously.

15. What is your availability for questions or support outside of tutoring sessions?

Our usual contact hours are:

Monday–Friday: 9am–5pm

You’re welcome to contact us with questions about your child’s tutoring or our services during these hours.

16. How does the free trial work?

You can book a one-hour trial session in Maths or English, free of charge. It gives your child the opportunity to experience a Louisa Tutors session before you decide whether you would like to continue.

17. Do I need to provide payment information?

No. The trial is completely free, with no obligation to continue afterwards.

18. What happens after the trial ends?

If you and your child are happy with the trial session, you can choose to continue with regular Louisa Tutors sessions.

There is no obligation to continue, and you’re welcome to ask any questions before deciding.
